Fabric of Vision

May – June 2006

Yes, it’s really happening—A new Quilt Shop and Fiber Art Gallery in Ashland, Oregon!

Let me start from the beginning. Most of you know me as Sandi Globus, previous owner of Ocean Wave Quilts in Trinidad. And most of you know that I sold the shop in January 2005 to Suzie Burkhart, who continues to keep it going strong. I visited Suzie in March and she has done a great job. Congratulations, Suzie!

After a year of retirement, I have realized that I really miss the excitement of owning a quilt shop—and all the people associated with it. Why aren’t you surprised? So, here’s the good part: Fabric of Vision opens May 5, 2006 at 145 East Main Street in Ashland. Margaret Miller is scheduled to attend the Grand Opening, where she will be signing books and demonstrating her newest templates.

The location is amazing! Picture this: an old auto parts store with wood floors and brick walls, and it’s located in downtown Ashland with all the fun shops and restaurants. The Shakespeare theaters are around the corner, Paddington Station (a local gift shop) is two doors down, Starbucks is across the street, and the Irish Pub is next door. Talk about something for everyone!

You are possibly scratching your head about the “Fiber Art Gallery” in the store. The fiber art world is a community that encourages creative growth. I am pleased to be able to offer a venue for Fiber Artists to show and sell their work. This means that you will be able to view a quilt show every time you visit Fabric of Vision, and everyone will be offered an opportunity to pad their walls! So often someone enters a quilt shop and asks, “Is it for sale?” Now, the answer is yes! See the schedule of events for this quarter’s featured artists on the Events page.

Fabric

OK, I know you really want to hear about the fabric. Well, the best is here! We have bolts, rolls, fat quarters and kits, all made with current exciting fabric—Kaffe Fassett, Amy Butler, and Lonni Rossi, to name a few. We have samples made using many of the newest lines. Fat Quarters are precut of (almost) all of the fabrics and there is no premium charged; a fat quarter is priced the same as a quarter of a yard.

Books

As many of you know, I love books! We have the coziest book corner, where you’ll have the chance to peruse the newest titles and those old classics that you’ve been meaning to buy. What can be more fun than spending some time at Fabric of Vision? I’ve always been intrigued with Book Clubs or Reading Groups where readers participate in a regular discussion of books. Fabric of Vision will take this one step forward to the quilting level. Once a month, we will meet and discuss a quilt book (not a novel). Techniques will be discussed, and projects may be made and presented. If possible, the author may be available for an informal meeting and signing. The number of members of the club will be limited so that each person will have time to participate in the discussion. Book Club members will receive a discount on the featured book.

When: First Saturday of every month, with the exception of July when the meeting will be the second

Saturday. Time: 9 am to 10 am

Location: The first meeting at Fabric of Vision on May 6.

Book: Angleplay Blocks

Discussion will be lead by author Margaret Miller. What a treat!

** You must pre-register to attend **

Please note: Margaret will be available after 10 am (no registration required) for general public book signing and demonstrations. If you are unable to attend Book Club but would like to receive the selected book by mail, contact Fabric of Vision for more information.

Parties

I just love parties! Have you ever fantasized about having an entire quilt shop to yourself and a handful of your closest friends? I recently read an article in Real Simple magazine about stores that offer small private parties after regular store hours, and I think it’s a perfect idea. How exciting! Fabric of Vision will be available for private parties! You provide a group of four to eight friends, and we’ll provide the snacks (and maybe even the party hats). It’s suggested that you allow two hours and start between 6 and 7 pm. You may also want to make dinner reservations at one of the nearby restaurants. Call Fabric of Vision at (541) 482-4009 to set a date for your party.

As I wait for the dust to settle over the remodel, I still have many things to do. I actually have a five foot piece of butcher paper for my “to do” list! So call your friends and plan a trip to Ashland, either for the Grand Opening on May 5, 6 & 7 or sometime thereafter.

You won’t be disappointed!

I wish you well on your quilting journey,

Sandi
